There's nothing wrong with "spoiling" a grandchild, as long as it doesn't get to the "rotten" point, right? :-) My grandma was a little over the top with my sister and I, but we still ended being productive members of society.

When my Sister was 5 months pregnant (first grandchild) - my parents went out, and in the course of three weeks bought; a plastic picnic bench, a toy castle themed tent, a lifesize elmo doll, a ball pit and several books. When she turned one month old, my Father bought her the matching plastic slide to go with the picnic table. It doesn't need to make sense - I think Grandparents just have to spoil their children...
